Pat Kin Pat Sum Cafe in Platinum Victory below par

[Pixs copyright Ewe Paik Leong]

The crowd in Pat Kin Pat Sum Cafe in Platinum Victory, Jalan Genting Kelang, KL, prompts me to try this joint, styled like Kim Gary and Wong Kok. Upon entering it, I immediately dislike the close arrangement of the tables -- they are just two feet apart. I order the following:

French toast RM4.30
Double-boiled soup with chicken dice RM8.90
Cheese baked rice with sliced beef RM13.90
Old fashioned loh swee fun RM9.90
Egg custard tart RM3.80
Rice noodle roll with prawn RM4.80
Plum apple juice RM3.90
Chinese tea RM1.00

The double boiled soup is horrible -- salty and lacking herbal flavour (5/10). The chee cheong fun is soft, not springy (5/10). Cheese baked rice is also on the salty side (6/10). Egg custard tart contains mostly flour with an under-dose of egg (4/10).

I am stumped why it's doing well. My speculation is its wide array of dishes on offer --more than 140 items (from Western dishes to Hongkie-style food to local hawker fare) and something like 40 types of dim sum tidbits.
