Bak kut teh of Klang standard at Hong Bee on Jalan Ipoh, KL

[Pix copyright Ewe Paik Leong]

Isolated at the end of Jalan Ipoh (if you’re coming from Jalan Raja Laut), KL, but with easy parking, Hong Bee is a bak kut teh gem whose standard is on par with that in Klang. Once you are seated, a young blond-haired English-speaking waitress will rattle out the various cuts available such as ribs, soft ribs, big bone (tua kut in Hokkien dialect -- my favourite), small bone, leg meat, flower meat, pig tail, intestines, stomach, and others. Many take-away orders may deplete the favourite cuts such as big bone, small bone, and soft ribs (so, come early). The bak kut teh soup is slightly heavier in flavour compared to others but very refreshing as Chinese herbs are used liberally. Interesting side orders are braised tendons, leg meat and chicken feet. Opens from 5 pm till 11 pm daily.

Address: Hong Bee Bak Kut Teh
