Makan Kitchen's (Doubletree by Hilton) prices are outrageous

Makan Kitchen in Kuala Lumpur's Doubletree by Hilton is a slaughterhouse outfitted with luxury furnishings. A plate of roast duck rice costs RM32 (or to be precise M37.12 after the 10% service charge and 6% Government tax). You can go to Jalan Yap Hin in Pudu, home to several scrumptious roast-duck stalls, and take home a whole duck -- equally tasty if not tastier -- for around the same price.

A plate of Penang Char Kway Teow for RM28? (RM32.48 after the ++) “Penang”? Really ah? This "Penang" tag is pure copywriting crap. For that kind of price, Penangites who are used to the standard of Sister’s Char Kway Teow in Macalister Road (and other stalls elsewhere in Georgetown) will throw Makan Kitchen’s menu into the waters of Weld Quay, where its residents living in stilted houses do their business in the sea. And a bowl of ice kacang for RM13 (RM15.08)? Is it better than that in Swatow Lane? A pokai [broke] bloke like me better stick to the street food of Penang and I shall.
