Big Mouth Bak Kut Teh purportedly the best in Chinatown but can you stomach the filthy environment?
Big Mouth Bak Kut Teh is located at the Hawker Gallery that adjoins the back of the Petaling Street Wet Market. Access is via a zinc-sheltered lane from Jalan Tun H.S. Lee near the Kuan Yin Temple. My friends, Mor Sai and Chow Kah, swear it is the best bak kut teh in Chinatown. According to them, the flavour is Hokkien-style, much like those in Klang. They added that the fish head is pretty yummy, too. I have passed Big Mouth Bak Kut Teh more than once and on every occasion, I shuddered at the sight and stench of the filthy lane where the stall is located. A small area has been partitioned and fitted with air-conditioning, though. Nevertheless, yuks!
