They're aunties with rolls of fat under their chins and ridges at the corners of their eyes. They're uncles with grey hair and corrugated foreheads and perhaps carrying the baggage of senility. But as members of the Malayan Communist Party in their younger days, they fought the Japanese Imperial Army together with the British Force 136. I write not to praise these resistance fighters but to remind the younger generation of the historical facts. The evil that men do lives after them, wrote Shakespeare. The good is oft interred with their bones. So let it be with the Malayan Communist Party -- often demonized and condemned in unfair ways -- which has left its footprints in our history books.
